Newly engaged couples who need images for a save-the-date, a wedding website, or an announcement — usually on a deadline.

1. The announcement frame

One horizontal and one vertical version of the same strong image, with space around you for text. Almost nobody shoots for the crop and then the save-the-date does not work.

2. Ring in context

Hands on a coat, around a cup, in a pocket — not the isolated ring on a leaf, which every gallery already has.

3. Where you met, or where it happened

Specific to you, and it gives the images a story that a pretty location cannot.

4. Golden hour on a street

Warm light, movement, city behind you. In London the hour before sunset is the whole window in winter and requires a late start in summer.

5. Black and white, close

Removes the styling and leaves the two of you. The frame that stays relevant after the wedding.

6. The messy one

Wind, rain, laughing about it. Engagement galleries are usually too tidy, and the imperfect frame is the one people react to.

Where to shoot it

Somewhere with meaning first, somewhere photogenic second. In London: an early morning at a landmark, a park at golden hour, or the neighbourhood where you live. Two locations inside two hours is realistic if they are a short walk apart.

Choosing a location, in order

1. Meaning first. Somewhere you actually go beats somewhere photogenic you have never been — it shows in how you stand.
2. Light second. Open shade or low sun; never overhead midday light on faces.
3. Logistics third. Two locations within a short walk is realistic in two hours; three means the travel eats the session.
4. Permissions. Most London parks are fine for a small personal shoot; commercial work in managed estates and some royal parks needs a permit — ask before planning around one.
