Is your posing stuck in 2019?

Three Habits To Retire

Not stuck, but running on defaults learned from a decade of Instagram — and those defaults now read as slightly old.

The three to drop

Hand on hip with the elbow pushed out. The look-away with a lifted chin. And shoulders square to the lens with both feet planted. Each was a genuinely good solution to a real problem — they make you look narrower, more relaxed, more symmetrical — but every phone user learned them at the same time, which is what makes them read as generic now.

What replaces them

Weight on the back foot with the front knee soft, which does the same slimming work without the announcement. A turn of the head caught mid-movement instead of held. And hands occupied by an object rather than placed.

The mindset shift

Old posing asks “how do I look best standing still?”. Current posing asks “what was I doing when the shutter went?”. Answer the second question and the first takes care of itself.

How this result was scored

The quiz asks 8 questions. Every answer carries a weight, and this result covers scores from 12 to 18 out of a possible 24. Landing here means your answers clustered in that band rather than at either extreme — the bands exist because the useful advice genuinely differs between them, not to flatter anyone.

The scoring happens in your browser. No answer is transmitted, stored or attached to you; the quiz simply opens the fixed page matching your band.
